In Search of Home: Two Bedrooms, One Bath
1_robbins_COVER.jpg

Two Bedrooms, One Bath, the first installation in the trilogy In Search of Home, explores the idea of “home” and the role that place plays in shaping our memories. The installation consists of nine images of domestic flooring, each representing a common room, with one image from each participant’s current home. The images are true to scale and mounted together on a low platform in a three-by-three grid, forcing viewers to step onto the image to hear the associated sound recording through headphones suspended from the ceiling. Each audio track brings together recordings of the same nine participants discussing a specific room in the place they had lived that felt most like home. Their stories are fragmented and collaged to create a collective response that moves from the room’s role or function to more personal stories about the people and events associated with that space.
